  15. WHAT IS FAMILYBASE?
  16. -------------------
  17. FamilyBase is a personal genealogical database for Microsoft Windows.  
  18. It will be invaluable to anyone who is interested in recording and 
  19. documenting family history.  With it you can keep detailed records of 
  20. all your ancestors and relatives, including their interrelationships 
  21. and important events in their lives, and print detailed reports, 
  22. lists, indexes, family trees and ancestor charts.

  42. HARDWARE & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  44.   FamilyBase needs Windows 3.1 or later with at least 4 Megabytes
  45. of RAM and a mouse.  To print the ancestor and descendant charts
  46. properly a printer capable of handling graphics is needed.

  49. INSTALLING FAMILYBASE
  50. ---------------------
  51.   FamilyBase is very easy to install.  Just copy the four files
  52. onto a directory on your hard disk and then, from within Windows,
  53. run the program FAMBASE.EXE.
  54.  
  55. In more detail, the steps to follow (with Windows 3.0 or 3.1) are:
  56.   Start the Windows File Manager.
  57.   Create a new directory called FAMBASE on your hard disc.
  58.   Copy the FamilyBase files to this new directory.
  59.   Switch to the Windows Program Manager.
  60.   Select a Program Group to include the FamilyBase program.
  61.   Use the Program Manager 'New' command to create the FamilyBase
  62.     Program Item in your chosen group.  The command line should be
  63.     'C:\FAMBASE\FAMBASE.EXE' 
  64.     (assuming that 'C' is the drive containing your new directory).
  65.   The FamilyBase icon will now appear in the program group.  
  66.   Start FamilyBase by double-clicking on the icon.
  67.   Use the HELP command on the menu bar for more instructions.

  70. CONTENTS OF THIS ISSUE

  72.   FamilyBase is issued as five files:
  73.     FAMBASE.EXE  -  the FamilyBase program;
  74.     FAMBASE.HLP  -  a Windows help file;
  75.     FAMBASE.WRI  -  an introduction to FamilyBase in Windows
  76.                        Write format;
  77.     README.TXT   -  an introduction to FamilyBase;
  78.     REFORMAT.EXE -  converts files that were created with earlier
  79.                       releases of FamilyBase.

  82. CONDITIONS OF USE
  83. -----------------
  84.   FamilyBase is shareware.  Users who have not registered may
  85. evaluate it for a trial period of 30 days after which they must either
  86. cease using it or register.  After the trial period has expired the
  87. frequency of the registration reminders will increase and, after a 
  88. further 30 days, printing will be disabled.

  90.   Copies of FamilyBase may be freely distributed but must not be 
  91. modified in any way.

  93.   To become a registered user follow the instructions given by the 
  94. "How to register" command on the program's Help menu.
